Keenai meets a new friend

Keenai, in his deep sleep, did not hear the commotion coming from the creatures in camo suits. He still lay upon his rock, outstretched in an awkward position, his coat moist from sweat, his mouth lay open and tongue lay on his paw, his other paw lay outstretched across the rock scaving at it every now and then through his nightmare. His back legs kicking as if he were running. He talked, only random words every now and then, until something disturbed him.

A loud sound pierced the sky. Keenai sprang up! The nerves in his legs shaken so badly that they pushed him off the rock sending his face flying to the ground. Stunned, Keenai shook his sweaty pelt, chest heaving, teeth clenched, slightly growling, and looking in all directions. All four feet stand very far apart in an alert stance, ready to run in any direction.

Again, the sky piercing sound. Keenai had heard this sound before, but could not put a name on it. Only it was large, and a killing machine. The sound came from the west. Keenai ran east, towards the mountains, river, and other Packs.

The wind abruptly changed directions, seeming to carry the scents of the 'fight' to Keenai. It swirled around him, drowning his senses in Misty's scent. Taunting. Daring him to go back.

Back in the woods the men drew nearer, their shouts more muted as they turned their focus to the task ahead of them. Misty. Take her down. That was their objective. As far as they knew, she was just a rogue animal. But they were wrong, oh so wrong.

The tallest of the group, and by far the wisest, made his first mistake by closing in, gun raised as if to fire. 'Misty' dropped low, her warning growl making her attacker aware before she lunged, taking him to the ground with her. They rolled, but it didn't matter. She had a tight grip on his throat. By the time she hopped away, whirling to face the others, the man was already dead.
Shouting followed, the shadows upturned to chaos.

Keenai stopped running. Misty's scent was so strong .. it made him angry. His testosterone levels got stronger. He felt the need to protect and defend both his home and Misty. His testosterone made him fearless, and strong. He never took his eye off the woods behind him home .. just kept staring. The deepest of growls escaped his throat as his teeth shown in full. His muzzle deformed by his snarls. He lowered his eared on his head and lowered his head to the grass, ready for anything.

His anger consumed him, engulfed him in the thought of loosing a helpless soul. He was so angry, he care none at all for his own life. He'd let them take it if he had to.

'Misty's' nails dug into the dirt, her gaze hard and on the men. She was focused, and ready for anything they had to throw at her.
The men paused, glancing back and forth between their group, deciding what to do.
Finally, something changed in the atmosphere. The smallest of the group shot forward, diving onto his stomach as he caught 'Misty' in his grasp.
They struggled, the man trying to hold on, and 'Misty' trying to break from his grasp. While the fight went on, another of the men drew out a different sort of gun, loaded and shot.
The dart hit Misty in her back flank, and at first, it would seem as if it had failed.
But slowly, oh so slowly, her efforts at bucking from the attackers grip slowed, becoming more and more uncoordinated as she toppled to the ground, eyes rolling back into her head before she passed out.

Keenai could hear the commotion still going on and it sounded as if they weren't going to come closer. So Keenai took his strongest breath and bellowed out a powerful howl for everyone to hear.

He wanted the creatures to come out and fight him. Other wolves from far called back, but Keenai could care less about then, he wanted the real prize .. His blood lust rising.

He still didn't know where Misty was, but she was around. Maybe watching. "What if these are the things that put the curse on Misty?" Keenai began to growl loudly at his own thought, snout so high in the air now. "I must get revenge for her. I hope she's watching .. I hope she is .."

The shouts gave way to cheers as the group of men applauded, clapping each other on the shoulder, proud of what they'd accomplished. The largest of the group scooped Misty up, slinging her limp body over his shoulder as if she were a mere rag doll, noting at all to be afraid of.
They stomped through the woods in triumph, oblivious to Keenai's call. As far as they knew, no other wolf in these parts posed any threat.

Keenai listened carefully. It sounded as if the creatures were fading. Keenai went into rage. He wanted to do damage, but they weren't even paying attention to him, making Keenai look foolish. Keenai was Not going to be made a fool of.

As fast as he could he sprinted into the woods. Their scent growing stronger. Just up ahead, he could see it. 5 bipeds .. one with .. Misty over their shoulder! Keenai's rage was like a forest fire that had just reached a den full of pups .. Keenai was ready to kill them.

One of the men pulled up short, an eyebrow raised. "You guys hear that?"
The others shook their heads. One spoke up. "You're just hearing things. Besides, we took out the threat-" he motioned to Misty, who was still out cold. "So there's nothing to be worried about-"
They continued on.
